Individual Psychotherapy · Portland, Oregon

Therapy is a space to understand,
work through,
and move forward.

People often come to therapy at a moment of crisis or transition, or simply with a feeling that something isn't quite right. They may be struggling with relationships, work, mood, with patterns they can't seem to change, or with a sense that life could feel more meaningful, joyful, productive and connected.

In therapy, change comes through relationship. When space is created to think about your experiences, thoughts and feelings with compassionate curiosity, things can shift. Together, we can come to understand more about what drives your responses and reactions, what you want for yourself and what might be getting in the way.

My approach is collaborative and unhurried. We will pay close attention to the particulars of your life, not just the problems you bring but the way you experience and describe them so you can choose and create the life that you want.

The First Visit

Your first appointment is a chance to tell me about yourself and what's brought you to therapy and to think about how we might work together.

Who I Work With

I work with adults navigating a wide range of concerns — from anxiety, depression and trauma to relationship struggles, burnout, life transitions and the everyday difficulties of work and family.

Where & How

I see people in person at my office in Northwest Portland and via telehealth. I have over twenty years of clinical experience across a range of mental health settings.

About Me

Kate Donchi, MS, LMFT

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist practicing in Northwest Portland, Oregon.

I am from the East Coast via California. I started my career in community mental health in the Bay Area working in intensive outpatient and school settings while also working at Stanford on a research team looking at maternal-infant attachment. After moving to Portland I worked with a mobile crisis response team and opened my private practice where I have worked for over 20 years.

I have served as a committee chair and Board member of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Association and have given presentations, led groups and taught classes to local professionals.

Therapy sessions focus on what is on your mind and how you think about, experience, and understand things. Together we can come to know more about how your mind works, what leads you to feel and react the way you do, and what you want for yourself and your relationships going forward.

Kate Donchi, MS, LMFT

It is my great privilege to share in people's lives as they seek to move forward with greater ease, engagement, connection, and joy.
